PLASTICA PORTA

PLASTICA PORTA - instalacja, dmuchane obiekty z tworzywa sztucznego

Forma bramy nawiązuje do historycznego łuku triumfalnego.

PLASTICA PORTA pozostaje więc jednocześnie atrakcyjnym wizualnie zaproszeniem i nieco niepokojącym pomnikiem konsumpcji. To brama, przez którą zapraszam do wejścia w świat sztuki zawieszonej pomiędzy dziełem a produktem, celebracją a odpadem, wizualną przyjemnością a świadomością jej materialnych konsekwencji.

PLASTICA PORTA - installation, inflatable plastic objects

PLASTICA PORTA is a monumental installation in the form of a gate or portal, constructed from multiplied inflatable toys. At its highest point, the work exceeded 7 metres in height, making it the largest single object I have created to date.

The work asks whether our time might one day be remembered as the age of oil and petrochemicals, an era defined by plastic, a material that is almost ubiquitous yet extraordinarily persistent in the environment. The colourful, attractive and playful elements create the image of a consumerist carnival, while their fundamental material remains one of the most distinctive physical traces left by contemporary civilisation.

Formally, PLASTICA PORTA refers to the celebratory dimension of art, festivities and carnival. It draws on an exaggerated pop aesthetic and a visual appeal associated, among others, with the work of Jeff Koons. The inflatable figures appear humorous, grotesque and at times deliberately absurd, while simultaneously forming a composition of intense colours and shapes. Despite being a spatial installation, I therefore also approach it as a kind of painting extended into three dimensions.

The form of the gate refers to the historical triumphal arch. Early structures of this kind were often temporary, constructed for the ceremonial entrance of a ruler or victor and made from materials available to a particular community. In this sense, they represented both what a society could materially afford and what it considered culturally or aesthetically worthy of celebration. My triumphal arch is made from a material emblematic of the present, non-biodegradable plastic shaped into substitutes for products, food, animals and other objects of consumption.

I do not, however, treat plastic itself as an unequivocal evil. The issue lies not only in the material, but in the scale of its production, the short lifespan of many plastic objects and the failure to establish effective systems of reuse. PLASTICA PORTA therefore functions simultaneously as an appealing invitation and a slightly unsettling monument to consumption. It is a gateway into a world of art suspended between artwork and product, celebration and waste, visual pleasure and an awareness of its material consequences.
